Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris born October 20, 1964) is an American politician and lawyer who is currently the 49th vice-president of the United States. She is the first woman to hold the vice-president and the highest ranking female official in U.S history. She is a senator and former senator from California. Harris was born and raised in Oakland, California. She started her career with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Then she was recruited to San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was appointed the San Francisco district attorney. Harris was elected Attorney-General of California in 2010 and was reelected in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris beat Loretta Martinez in 2016's Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. As a senator, Harris advocated for health care, federal de-scheduling and cannabis legalization, a path to citizenship of undocumented immigrants, and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. She gained a national profile for her pointed examination of Trump administration officials in Senate hearings, including Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of assault on a woman.
